About the album

Christopher Gunning and the RPO present a series of 3 concertos, all written for friends and colleagues of the composer. In Gunning's own words "... in each case my aim has been to provide the soloist with something enjoyable yet technically challenging to play, and to bring out those characteristics of the solo instrument I find the most appealing."

The 3 resulting works include a light-hearted concertino for flautist Catherine Handley, a lyric and elegiac clarinet concerto for Michael Whight, and a holiday-inspired concerto for guitarist Craig Ogden.

" With the composer an ardent conductor inspiring compelling performances of all three works, it is an admirable disc to show off Christopher Gunning’s still under-appreciated gifts." Gramophone
